Axle announces its $17.5M Series A to continue building the AI native clearinghouse for insurance
Announcing our $17.5M Series A led by Base10
We're thrilled to announce $17.5M in Series A funding led by Base10 Partners, with continued investment from Y Combinator, and Gradient Ventures; and participation from Stage2 Capital, Chris Bayley (Co-Founder and CEO of Cover Genius), and other industry angel investors. They join our existing investors, including the early team at Plaid.
Over the last six months, we've tripled the number of workflows we automate. We now clear more than $100B in coverage every year for over 4,000 businesses - mortgage lenders, auto dealers, rental car companies, auto lenders, employers, and more - including dozens of Fortune 500 companies like Rocket Mortgage, Avis, Experian, and Sonic Automotive. Along the way, we've sped those workflows up by 20x and recovered hundreds of millions of dollars in losses for our customers.
"Before Axle, verifying a renter's insurance meant either absorbing the risk or slowing the customer down at the counter. Axle gives us an instant, accurate answer at the moment it matters, and it has helped us recover millions in losses we used to write off each year."
- Jordan Bannantine, Head of Risk Management at SIXT
An $8.3 trillion industry still running on paper and phone calls
Insurance is the $8.3 trillion backbone of the economy. You need it to close a mortgage, buy a car, lease an apartment, rent a vehicle, drive for work, move furniture… the list goes on and on. And yet, the businesses that depend on it still run on fax machines and phone calls to verify, update, and monitor policies.
For example, a single mortgage can require a lender to engage with insurance more than 10 times over the life of a loan: from calculating DTI, to ensuring proper coverage, selling the loan to Fannie Mae, paying your escrow bill every year, and supporting you if something ever happens.
The reason is structural. Unlike banking and credit, insurance has never had a common ledger. A single large carrier can run 15 or more separate policy systems, and much of the data still lives in unstructured documents built for brokers, not software.
Building the clearinghouse for insurance
That's where Axle comes in. Our infrastructure and AI agents integrate into those fragmented systems, route each request to the right place, and normalize messy, unstructured data into a single standard. The result is one clean API that software and AI agents can build on to automate the workflows that the economy runs on:
- Does my customer have insurance?
- Does it meet my requirements?
- Can you update changes to the policy?
- Has anything changed?

"In 2026, no one should be faxing PDFs or sitting on hold to confirm a policy. Few real economy industries are more foundational, or more manual, than insurance. The Axle team built the rails that make insurance programmable, and we believe a generation of products will be built on top of them."
- Adeyemi Ajao, Co-founder and Managing Partner at Base10 Partners
Whatʼs Next?
Having proven the model across five distinct markets, we'll use the funding from this round to scale our hiring across engineering and go-to-market teams, and to expand the clearinghouse to more than 50 segments spanning Home, Auto, Renters, Commercial, and Specialty insurance, while deepening our direct relationships with carriers who increasingly use Axle as a governed gateway to the businesses and consumers they serve.
But thatʼs just the start: everything the economy runs on - credit, payments, identity, income - has a clearinghouse in the middle. Insurance never has. We're building it. Once insurance is standardized and programmable, it becomes far more valuable to the carriers who write it, the businesses that rely on it, and the hundreds of millions of consumers it protects.
Come build with us
We're hiring. We're growing the team across product, engineering, and go-to-market, and we'd love to meet people who want to work on foundational infrastructure for a multi-trillion-dollar industry. See our open roles on our job board.
Weʼre partnering. If your business depends on insurance, we'd love to show you what instant verification, monitoring, and policy updates can do for your workflows. Or, if you're a carrier looking to make your policies programmable through a governed gateway, we'd love to talk. Reach out here.

Thank you
To our customers - the 4,000+ real-economy businesses that trust Axle to automate mission-critical workflows that the economy runs on. We would not get to do this without you. Every time we hear a story of how Axle prevented a loss from happening, a bad actor from making an adverse action, or even helping an end consumer realize they had the wrong VIN on their policy, weʼre reminded of why we do this.
To our team - thank you for building infrastructure that clears more than $100B in coverage every year and pushing the frontier of what it means to be accurate, reliable, and easy to use.
